Roland's Path is the first book in the Heirs of Vanity series and the first story overall in the Bloodlines Reforged Saga by author R.J. Hanson. The paperback and eBook versions include a black and white map of Statvs in the back of the book
Setting[edit | edit source]
Roland's Path is set in the month Tetobier of the year 1648, in the Age of Restored Great Man Kings. If you're following the author's suggested reading order, it should be read before all other stories.[1]
Synopsis[edit | edit source]
When two servants of evil escape during young Roland’s watch, he is driven by his own shame and vanity to take up his axes and track them down himself. Raised on the rural edges of Gallhallad, can he survive the dangers and complexity of the road ahead? With the help of his lifelong friend Eldryn, the Cavalier hopeful, and an uneasy bargain with a dagger wielding cutpurse, Roland pursues a wizard of unknown powers and a woman of uncommon beauty and skill. Will Roland's vanity not only doom him, but a kingdom he hoped to one day serve as well? In Roland's world of Stratvs, vanity has a high price. A price paid with the blood of the innocent and the guilty. Around him, swords once pledged to justice rust on the altars of the self-righteous.
A boy untested undertakes a quest, the stakes of which are far more than he could guess… Can his need to prove himself overcome the odds against him? Powerful sorcerers send their agents to vie in the shadows for a holy artifact. Meanwhile, the fate of a people hangs in the balance. A mighty knight is needed… but a boy answers the call. Will his courage hold?[2]

Trivia[edit | edit source]
- Roland's Path is the only book in the Heirs of Vanity series to have its own audiobook.
- The narrator for Roland's Path is different than the narrator for Heirs of Vanity.
- The name Roland's Path was set in stone long before the book was ever written. R.J. Hanson read Warrior's Path by Louis L'Amour in his youth and told himself he'd name his story "(Main Character's Name) Path" if he ever wrote his own book.[13]
- The first page of Roland's Path contains an error. It refers to the fifth known age, however, only 3 different ages are currently known.[14]
- The reason Roland's Path is set in the month of Tetobier (the tenth month of the year), is because R.J. Hanson is a fan of that time of year, having been born on Halloween.
