Lord Ivant, formerly King Ivant was the king of the Kingdom of Rexyaud, which spanned all of Stratvs and was so named for the first dragon gifted to men by Father Time, to advise and guide them.[1] Lord Ivant was the husband of General Arto, formerly Queen Arto, and at least one son.

Lord Ivant is the distant ancestor of Jonas, Velryk, Verkial, and Roland

Biography[edit | edit source]

Early Life[edit | edit source]

Betrayal[edit | edit source]

After having slain a Leviathan in the city of Ivory Rose, (now known as Moras), King Ivant was fleeing Leviathan hatchlings with Master Templar Truthorne. They fled into the Cathedral of Time, led by Most High Cleric and Supreme Pontiff Lynneare.[2] After discovering the hidden door to the tunnels under the church, King Ivant patched up Truthorne's wound. They encountered King Vech of the Stonebeard's while under the city. As they were traveling, the trio stumbled across several Templars murdering King Ivant's soldiers. King Vech sided with King Ivant, while Truthorne fought King Ivant defensively to deflect his Shrou-Hayn, Swift Blood.[3] Supreme Pontiff Lynneare teleported away with Master Templar Truthorne, and Lord High Paladin Maloch with more than 500 men. They sought to take the capital city of Rexyaud, Nolcavanor. The betrayal led to the Battles of Rending, which caused the collapse of King Ivant's kingdom and his eventual death, though not before he sent his son to Lethor to save his bloodline.

Death[edit | edit source]

Two years into the Battles of Rending, Ivant, now Lord Ivant catches up with Supreme Pontiff Lynneare, Lord High Paladin Maloch, and Master Templar Truthorne in the capital city of Nolcavanor. In the highest tower of the cathedral, a tower dedicated to Time, Lord Ivant cursed the trio.[4] The primordial power of banishment by the rightful king was felt by everybody in the room. The air, seized with a 'palpable' primordial energy and the sound of thunder that seemed to emanate in the distance as well as every stone in the structure was heard by all. Lynneare, Truthorne, and Maloch were all cursed while Lord Ivant, King Vech, and General Willock were all killed.[5] The City of Nolcavanor as well as the land for leagues and leagues in all directions was subject to the god's wrath. The resulting carnage created the mountain range of Nolcavanor.[6]

Inspiration[edit | edit source]

In Where did it come from? Wednesday! #18, R.J. Hanson revealed that when he envisioned the character of Lord Ivant, he kept returning to Sir William Scott's Ivanhoe.

I've always loved the romance and chivalry of Ivanhoe.

Personality[edit | edit source]

Weapons and Abilities[edit | edit source]

Swift Blood[edit | edit source]

Lord Ivant carried a famous and storied Shrou-Hayn named Swift Blood that both he and Truethrone referred to it as female. Swift Blood is a six-foot-long mercshyeld greatsword with a crosspiece made of Dragon-forged Roarke's Ore and inscribed with holy symbols. Swift Blood is inlaid with pure silver and Roarke’s Ore in the old language of the original Great Men, with the words "Bleda o A Bleda Shuik".[7][8] The pommel is wrapped in an enchanted fine black leather, with a single emerald mounted in the hilt. Inside the emerald, there seemed to be a bubble or chamber that held something that was red and appeared to be swirling (blood).[8]

Swift Blood pierces the air almost as a lightning bolt, slicing through chainmail, flesh, and bone with ease.[9] Lord Ivant carried a specially mailed gauntlet to hold Swift Blood mid-half like a staff for close-quarters combat, holding the top third with the gauntleted hand.[10]

Thousands of years later, when Lord Ivant's distant descendant Roland discovers the blade, he recovers the scabbard. He can feel magical energy in the blade pulsing through his veins while wielding it. While heavy, it moved with magical speed. He was able to wield it as easily as a bastard sword but much faster.
